Education is the key to improvement and evolution of a professional field such as golf course architecture.
All of the team members of Albanese Golf Architecture have extensive education, and they all understand the value of learning.
To this end, Paul Albanese has taught golf design in many capacities. He was the Director of Golf Course Architecture at the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland from 2005 – 2010. He also taught a 10 day seminar for Cornell University’s Adult Education Program. In addition, he is a frequent guest lecturer at Michigan State University, and has spoken at many seminars and conferences.
Paul has also provided lectures on the Golden Age of Golf Design for the Wall Street Journal and Indagare Travel.
At the Edinburgh College of Art (University of Edinburgh) the program consisted of 12 modules that focus on the design of golf courses from many perspectives and includes the integration of many facets of design. The students started by learning basic principles of design and spatial orientation and progress through the detail design process, including green, tee, bunker and hazard design. The final design project was a two month independent golf course design evaluated by external examiners.

Students enrolled in the program, in addition to having learned the specific golf course architecture skills, are introduced to other facets of golf design, such as sculpture, golf course management, and construction. Being located in Scotland, the birthplace of golf, the students benefited from a spring study tour that enabled them to study and analyze many of the most famous precedents of golf course architecture.
