Wyandotte Shores Golf Course / Wyandotte, Michigan

Golf Course Architect: Paul Albanese, ASGCA

This was one of the first golf courses designed by Paul Albanese when he was with Jerry Matthews in 1996.

This nine-hole golf course lies directly on the Detroit River at the site of an old BASF chemical factory. This project is one of the first successful Brownfield reclamation projects in Michigan and was financed by TIF (Tax Increment Financing), which enabled the use of over 2 million cubic yards of earth to cover the site and create a “landscape” on which the golf course was designed.

For many months, we trucked train loads of dirt from the new Detroit Metro Airport to the site.

After two years, an exciting andcourse on the Detroit River opened to the public. A true feat. memorable golf

The Downriver community of Detroit has embraced this golf course as its own. There are many days on which golfers can hit their drive and then turn north toward the Detroit River to see a 1000 foot long freighter next to the 8th and 9th holes.
