On approximately 12 acres of land, the existing Michigan State Practice Facility for the men’s and women’s golf teams was perennially underwater. Our firm was retained to design a new facilty that would serve the mens and women’s Big Ten golf teams as a dedicated area to practice all types of shots they expect to hit in tournaments. And, most importantly, ensure it drains well.
The design strategy for this facility was to raise the entire 12 acres using fill material from the nearby hospital project and other construction projects being completed in the Lansing area. We ended up importing approximately 1,000,000 cubic yards of material to raise the site and create exciting forms and features to create a combination driving range that can also be used as a short course for the team members.
